Rated for 24 V, which is the standard control voltage in industrial panels — no separate power supply needed if your PLC or I/O rack already runs 24 VDC. The 7.5 mm nominal sensing distance means it detects ferrous targets passing within that gap; for steel, that's the rated range, and for other metals you'll get a derated distance (typically about 60% for aluminum, 40% for brass). In a pneumatic cylinder application, mount it so the piston head or a flag passes at 7.5 mm or closer, accounting for mechanical tolerances and any non-ferrous target material.
