The 50ms sampling speed is the headline number here — it determines how closely the controller can follow a fast-changing process variable. For a furnace or large oven, a 250ms loop is fine; for a hot-runner mold or a thin-film heater, the 50ms update keeps overshoot under control and prevents the PID from chasing its own tail. The 1/8 DIN form factor (48 x 96mm) fits standard panel cutouts, so swapping an older 1/8 DIN unit means no panel rework.
