15 mm shielded sensing in an M30 barrel
The Omron E2EM-X15X1 is a DC 2-wire proximity sensor in a shielded M30 housing, delivering a 15 mm ±10% sensing distance on ferrous metal — enough to detect a standard 30 × 30 × 1 mm iron target at the full rated range. Shielded construction means it can be flush-mounted in a metal panel without derating the sensing distance, a practical advantage when panel space is tight and the sensor face must sit level with the mounting surface.
2-wire DC loop considerations
Operating from 12 to 24 VDC (10 to 30 VDC range, 10% max ripple), this is a 2-wire sensor — the load current and sensor supply share the same pair. The 0.8 mA max leakage current when off is the key compatibility number: a PLC input with a 1-2 mA off-state threshold will see this as a solid OFF, but older or high-impedance inputs may need a bleeder resistor. The set distance is 0 to 12 mm, giving a usable window inside the 15 mm nominal range. Differential travel is 15% max of sensing distance — about 2.25 mm hysteresis, which prevents chatter on a target hovering near the detection boundary.
Response speed and target limitations
Response frequency is 0.25 kHz (250 Hz), which limits this sensor to slower-moving targets — a part passing at 1 m/s needs about 4 mm of target width for reliable detection. For high-speed counting or fast indexing lines, a higher-frequency sensor would be needed. Detectable object is ferrous metal only; non-ferrous materials (aluminum, brass, stainless) will have reduced range per the standard correction factors for inductive sensors. The standard sensing object is 30 × 30 × 1 mm iron.
Lifecycle and supply position
The estimated lead time is 4-6 weeks for production quantities.
