Obsolete — sourcing reality for the VW3A687537
For a line-down or BOM-fill need, this part is sourced through independent surplus channels — quantities are lot-specific and confirmed at RFQ, not held in stock.
Braking resistor ratings — 4.2 Ohm, 37 kW
The 4.2 Ohm resistance value sets the peak braking torque curve for the connected Altivar drive — lower ohms draw higher current during deceleration, so the drive's braking chopper must be rated for the resulting DC-bus current. Average power capability is 37 kW, which governs the continuous duty cycle: repeated fast stops that exceed this average will overheat the resistor element unless the drive's thermal model or an external temperature switch intervenes. Thermal protection is handled externally — either through the drive's own braking resistor monitoring or a separate temperature control switch wired into the safety circuit.
IP20 enclosure — panel-mount only
The IP20 rating means the resistor is protected against solid objects larger than 12 mm (fingers, tools) but not against water ingress — it must be installed inside a control cabinet or otherwise sheltered from moisture and washdown. As an enclosed unit, it ships ready for DIN-rail or panel mounting within the Altivar system, with the enclosure providing the necessary touch-safe barrier for the live resistor terminals.
