Sensor breakdown
The Omron E3Z-LL61-M1J 0.3M is a distance-settable BGS (Background Suppression) photoelectric sensor from the E3Z series, using a red 655nm LED. That means it sees a target and ignores the background at the set cutoff—critical on conveyors or pick-and-place stations where you don't want reflective brackets or belting tripping false signals. Adjustment is via a five-turn endless adjuster; no tools needed once you set the range. Output is NPN, configurable for Dark-ON or Light-ON, so it'll sink into a standard 24V PLC input module. Supply voltage from 12 to 24V—flexible if the cabinet runs a mixed bus. Response time is 1ms, fast enough for high-cycle counting or package detection but not sub-millisecond micro targeting.
Second-source fit check
If you're eyeing the E3S-AR86 as a backup, stop and read the manifest first. That sensor is retroreflective (needs a reflector), PNP output, and comes with a connector, not a cable. The E3Z-LL61-M1J 0.3M is BGS, NPN, and wired. Unless you're rewiring the whole drop, these don't swap. Fast nickel beats slow dime: stick with the exact BOM part unless you want to sort out a retrofit. The E3S-AR86 has a faster 500µs response but different sensing method—makes it a different tool for a different hole.
