Obsolete — what that means for your BOM line
Schneider Electric lists the GBX1200031003F as obsolete. This part is sourced through independent surplus and broker channels — quantities are lot-specific and confirmed at RFQ. Availability and current pricing are verified at quote time, not assumed from a shelf count.
Torque and ratio — the fit decision
The continuous output torque is 115 N.m (1017.8 lbf.in) at 100 rpm and 30 °C. That is the number to match against your driven load's steady-state demand — not the maximum peak of 184 N.m, which is a short-duration overload ceiling. Reduction ratio is 3:1. This is a single-stage planetary — the input speed is three times the output speed. Straight teeth means no helical axial thrust on the bearings, but expect slightly higher noise than a helical equivalent at the same ratio. Torsional backlash is 8 arc.min maximum. For positioning applications that need better than 0.13° repeatability at the output, this gearbox will introduce that much lost motion per reversal — factor it into your accuracy budget.
Shaft loads and service life
Maximum radial force Fr is 1500 N at 100 rpm, applied at mid-distance from the output shaft, for a 30000-hour life at 30 °C. Push that to 2000 N and the bearing life drops to 10000 hours at the same temperature and speed. Maximum axial force Fa is 2100 N at 100 rpm for 30000 hours at 30 °C, or 2800 N for a 10000-hour life. These are the overhung load limits — a belt drive or sprocket on the output shaft must stay within these radial and axial envelopes to hit the rated service life. Service life is 30000 hours at 100 rpm and 30 °C. The gearbox is lubricated for life — no oil changes, but the grease fill is sealed at the factory, so the life rating is baked in at assembly.
Efficiency, noise, and environment
Efficiency is 94 %. For a 115 N.m output at 100 rpm (roughly 1.2 kW mechanical), the heat loss is about 77 W — that stays inside the black anodized aluminium housing, so the ambient temperature around the gearbox must stay within -25 to 90 °C to avoid overheating the lubricant. Noise level is 65 dB at 1 m, no-load. Straight-tooth planetary gears are inherently noisier than helical — 65 dB is conversational level, but under load the noise will rise. The IP54 rating on the shaft output means the output seal resists dust and splashing water, but the gearbox body itself is not sealed — mount it where washdown is not directed at the housing joint.
