What the 1250 A rating means in a real panel
The GS1VB3 is a TeSys GS fuse switch disconnector body — the switch portion of a fused disconnect, not a complete unit with fuses. It is rated 1250 A conventional free air thermal current (Ith) at 104 °F (40 °C), which is the continuous current the switch can carry in open air without exceeding temperature rise limits. In a panel, derate for enclosure and grouping applies. The operational current (Ie) reaches 1000 A at 400 V in AC-23B duty — the category for motor switching with occasional overloads. At 690 V it drops to 630 A. The 8000 A breaking capacity at 400 V AC-23B means it can interrupt fault currents up to that level when paired with the correct BS fuses.
Lifecycle reality — obsolete, not gone
Schneider lists the GS1VB3 as obsolete. No official successor order code is recorded in the lifecycle data. This part is available through independent surplus and last-time-buy channels — quantities are lot-specific and confirmed at RFQ. For a line-down situation, the stock we hold covers the immediate need; for a longer production run, budget for a replacement strategy. The GS1VB3 is a 3-pole body accepting BS fuse links size D1. The switch mechanism is rated for 5000 mechanical cycles and 500 electrical cycles in AC-23B — this is a heavy-duty disconnect, not a daily operator switch. Plan spares accordingly if the application cycles near the limit.
Mounting and integration — panel or rail
Mounts on a plate or DIN rail. The body measures 20.6 in wide by 14.3 in high by 13.0 in deep (522 x 363 x 330 mm) — this is a large disconnect, not a compact unit. Plan the enclosure backplate layout with the handle clearance: the operating handle mounts on the external right side or external frontal position. Power circuit terminals accept bars or screw terminals up to 185 mm² flexible cable. Tightening torque is 389.4 lbf·in (44 N·m) for both control and power circuit terminals — a torque wrench is required. IP20 with terminal cover installed; the body itself is not sealed against washdown.
Standards and compliance — what the approvals cover
Designed to IEC 60947-3 (switch-disconnectors), IEC 60269-1 and IEC 60269-2 (fuse systems). The rated impulse withstand voltage is 12 kV (Uimp), and the rated insulation voltage is 1000 V AC at 50/60 Hz. Fire resistance tested to IEC 60695-2-1: the body withstands 1760 °F (960 °C), the fuse cover 1562 °F (850 °C). The short-circuit making capacity (Icm) is 1250 kA at 400 V when protected by BS fuses — this is the peak asymmetrical current the switch can close into without welding. The making capacity (10,000 A at 400 V AC-23B) is the value for the switch alone without fuse backup. For SCCR coordination, pair with the correct BS fuse rating.
