Sensor type and output logic
The SICK WL14-P430 is a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor — the emitter and receiver share the same housing, and the beam returns from a separately mounted reflector. The PNP switching output pulls high when the beam is made, which is the standard logic for most PLC digital inputs and safety relays that expect a sourcing signal. Supply voltage is 18 … 30 V DC, so it runs on a nominal 24 V DC industrial bus without a separate regulator.
Sensing range and response time
With the PL80A reflector, the guaranteed sensing range is 0.5 m … 7 m, and the maximum range under ideal conditions is 0.1 m … 5 m. The 7 m figure is the one to use for installation planning — it accounts for dust, misalignment, and reflector aging. Response time is under 2.5 ms with a resistive load, which is fast enough for counting parts on a conveyor at moderate line speeds but not for high-speed pick-and-place applications that need sub-millisecond reaction.
The M12 male connector, 4-pin is the standard industrial quick-disconnect; a mating cordset with a female M12, 4-pin is required. Dimensions are 17 x 75 x 32.5 mm — a compact rectangular housing that fits in tight spaces on a bracket or machine frame.
