Sensor fit for the line
The SICK WL280-2P2431 is a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor from the W280-2 series, delivering a 15 m sensing range with a visible red LED light source — enough to span a conveyor aisle or pallet-accumulation zone with a single reflector. The PNP output sinks 100 mA and switches in 500 µs, so it keeps up with fast-moving parts on a packaging line. Select Light-ON or Dark-ON via the wiring; no DIP switch to mis-set during commissioning.
The 15 m range is the maximum with a standard reflector — real-world distance drops with target reflectivity or dust on the optics, but it gives headroom for a 10 m belt with margin. IP66 and IP67 mean the housing and lens survive washdown and temporary submersion, so this sensor mounts directly on a food-grade conveyor frame or an outdoor transfer station without an extra enclosure. The M12 male connector mates to standard pre-wired cordsets; no pigtail splicing. The 23.5 mm width fits into the standard 25 mm T-slot bracket family, so swapping from a competitor's 20 mm or 27 mm sensor usually means a new bracket, not a panel re-drill. Operating voltage of 10–30 VDC covers 24 V nominal plant power with tolerance for brownout conditions down to 10 V.
