Sensor fit and deployment
The SICK WL4SL-3P2232 is a retroreflective photoelectric block sensor with a 12 m detection range. That 12 m reach covers long conveyor lines, access gates, or automated guided vehicle paths where you need a reliable break-beam trip point. The retroreflective design means the emitter and receiver share one housing, with a reflector mounted opposite — one cable run, one mounting point at the sensor end.
What the 12 m rating means for the line
A 12 m retroreflective range is not a headline number for show — it sets the maximum distance between sensor and reflector under clean-air conditions. In practice, that covers a typical conveyor zone, a pallet-accumulation lane, or a vehicle-detection gap at a transfer station. Dust, fog, or misalignment will reduce the usable range, so the 12 m spec gives you headroom to derate for real-world optics without losing the detection point. The block form factor with integrated optics simplifies mounting — no separate lens barrel to align.
