What the Z Characteristic Means for Fit
The Z characteristic (per IEC 60898) defines a narrow magnetic trip band — typically 2.5 to 4 times In. For a 63 A breaker, that means instantaneous tripping between roughly 158 A and 252 A. This is faster than a B curve (3–5× In) and much faster than a C curve (5–10× In), making it the right choice for protecting power supplies, drives, and rectifier inputs where the load draws near-sinusoidal current but a short-circuit must be cleared in under half a cycle. The trade-off is that Z-curve breakers are more sensitive to transformer inrush; verify the upstream transformer's magnetizing current won't nuisance-trip the 63 A rating.
Panel Integration
Four-pole width at 63 A means it occupies four modular units (each 18 mm) — 72 mm total on the rail. For a panel builder, this breaker fits alongside other 5SL series devices in a common distribution board without requiring a separate mounting plate.
