What it is and what it does
The Siemens 5SL6450-6 is a SENTRON miniature circuit breaker (MCB) — 4-pole, 50 A, B-curve trip characteristic, rated for 400 V AC with a 6 kA breaking capacity under both EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. That B curve means it trips between 3 and 5 times rated current, so it's sized for residential and light commercial final circuits where inrush from lighting or small motor loads is modest — not for heavy inductive kicks from large contactor coils or transformer banks.
Ratings and what they mean for panel fit
At 40 °C ambient the 50 A rating derates to 46.97 A; at 55 °C it drops to 42.01 A. If the panel runs hot — say a packed enclosure near a furnace line — the effective ampacity is lower than the nameplate. The 6 kA breaking capacity at 400 V is the same under both residential (EN 60898) and industrial (IEC 60947-2) standards, so it's accepted in either spec environment without a separate rating step. Four modular-width units (72 mm) on a DIN rail, 76 mm deep, 90 mm tall. Mounting position any, which helps when the gland plate forces a rotated layout. IP20 with conductors connected — fine inside a closed panel, not for wet or washdown zones. The sealable feature lets a panel builder lock the handle position after commissioning to prevent unauthorized reset.
