What this MCB is and what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 5SY7150-8 is a 1-pole SENTRON miniature circuit breaker with a D tripping characteristic, rated 50 A at 35 °C and breaking 15 kA per IEC/EN 60898 and IEC 60947-2. The D-curve means it tolerates the high inrush of motor-starting or transformer loads — typically 10–20× rated current for a short magnetic trip delay — so it is sized for inductive circuits, not resistive lighting or general-purpose socket outlets. The 15 kA breaking capacity at 230/400 V AC covers most industrial panel fault levels; the same 15 kA rating holds for DC circuits per IEC 60947-2, which simplifies BOM consolidation if your line uses both AC and DC branch protection. Temperature derating is published per the spec table: 50 A at 35 °C, 46.35 A at 45 °C, 45.1 A at 50 °C, 43.75 A at 55 °C, and 42.4 A at 60 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 35 °C, the actual continuous current the breaker can carry without nuisance tripping is lower than the 50 A label — plan the load accordingly.
Panel integration and mounting
Snap-on mounting to DIN rail via the quick-assembly system, 18 mm width (1 modular unit), any mounting position. Installation depth is 70 mm; overall depth is 76 mm including the terminal arc. IP20 with connected conductors — protected against finger contact but not washdown, so it belongs inside a closed panel, not on a machine exterior. Pollution degree 3 and overvoltage category III suit it for fixed industrial installations where transient overvoltages are expected. Combined terminal at both top and bottom accepts copper conductors. Sealable design allows the panel builder to lock the toggle position after commissioning. Halogen-free and silicon-free construction matters for environments sensitive to outgassing — clean rooms, semiconductor fabs, or food processing zones where silicone contamination can affect downstream processes.
