What it is and what it does
The Siemens 6GT2811-3BA00-2AA0 is an RF600 UHF reader — the box that talks to RFID tags on pallets, totes, or work-in-progress as they pass a read point. It operates in the 920 to 925 MHz UHF band, which is the standard allocation for much of the Americas and parts of Asia-Pacific; check your local regulatory table before committing the BOM line. Rated read range is 8 m, with extended ranges possible per the RF600 System Manual — enough to cover a conveyor merge, a dock door, or a portal gate without mounting the reader directly on the material flow. The IP65 enclosure (silver/anthracite aluminum and ABS GF20) means it can sit exposed on a production floor, handling washdown without a secondary enclosure. Power draw: 1.5 A max at 24 VDC, 0.45 A typical. The M12 4-pin female connector for supply voltage is standard for industrial sensors and readers, so panel wiring is straightforward. Two digital inputs and two digital outputs on a separate M12 8-pin connector give you local control — trigger the read cycle from a photo-eye or signal a reject gate directly, no PLC cycle needed.
Mounting and integration
Mounting: four M6 screws on the backplate, or VESA 100 pattern with four M4 screws. Dimensions are 252 mm high, 193 mm wide, 52 mm deep — roughly the footprint of a small industrial switch. The communication interface is a push-pull RJ45 for Ethernet, so it drops into a standard industrial network; the external antenna connects via RP-TNC, with cable runs from 1 m up to 40 m. Operating temperature range is -25 to +55 °C, with a note that below -20 °C a 10-minute warm-up is required. Storage and transport range is -40 to +85 °C. Shock and vibration resistance per EN 60068-2-27 and EN 60068-2-6, rated at 500 m/s² shock and 200 m/s² vibration — tough enough for conveyor-adjacent mounting.
