What this RFID reader does on your network
The Siemens 6GT2811-6AA10-4AA0 is a UHF RFID reader from the RF600 family, operating at 916 to 920 MHz for North American UHF band compliance. It reads passive transponders up to 8 m in the standard configuration, with extended ranges possible per the RF600 System Manual. The reader integrates directly onto industrial Ethernet networks via PROFINET IO or EtherNet/IP, and includes an embedded OPC UA server for direct data exchange with higher-level systems without a separate gateway.
Mounting and integration constraints
Mounts on a standard 35 mm DIN rail, or on a profile rail compatible with S7-300, S7-1200, or S7-1500 controllers. VESA 100 pattern with four M4 screws is an alternative for panel mounting. Power comes through an M12 8-pin connector at 24 V DC nominal, drawing 0.38 A typical and up to 2 A maximum. The IP65-rated aluminum and Pocan housing handles washdown and dusty environments, so it can live on the production floor rather than in a sealed cabinet.
Network services and diagnostics
Supports DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol) for Siemens network commissioning and LLDP for topology discovery — both useful when the reader is swapped or added to an existing PROFINET line. SNMP v1 is available for basic monitoring; SNMP v2 and v3 are not supported. Two LED rows (8 and 9 LEDs) give local status indication without needing to pull up a web interface. The reader also provides four digital inputs and four digital outputs for local I/O interlocking.
