What this reader does on the line
The Siemens 6GT2811-6CC10-0AA0 is a UHF RFID reader from the RF600 family, operating in the 865-868 MHz band with a maximum read range of 4 m. It communicates over PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP, and OPC UA, so it fits into Siemens-centric or Rockwell-centric automation architectures without a protocol gateway. The IP67-rated housing means it mounts directly on a conveyor frame or in a washdown zone — no separate enclosure needed. Power comes via an M12 8-pin connector at 24 VDC, drawing 0.22 A maximum.
Range and antenna setup
The 4 m maximum range is achieved with the included external antenna connected via the RP-TNC port. With the internal antenna, range drops to 1.6 m. The reader supports circular polarization, which helps maintain reads regardless of tag orientation — useful on mixed-product lines where tags aren't always facing the antenna. Transmit power is adjustable from 3 to 400 mW, so you can dial it down for dense-reader environments or bump it up for longer-range applications.
Mounting and environmental fit
The reader measures 133 mm × 133 mm × 45 mm and mounts via a VESA 100 pattern with four M4 screws — standard for panel or bracket mounting. The housing is Pocan (a glass-reinforced PBT), silver/TI-grey. It operates from -25 °C to +55 °C and survives transport and storage from -40 °C to +85 °C. Shock resistance is rated at 250 m/s² per EN 60068-2-27, and vibration at 30 m/s² per EN 60068-2-6 — tough enough for conveyor-adjacent mounting.
Protocols and diagnostics
Beyond the industrial Ethernet protocols, the reader supports DCP (Discovery and Configuration Protocol) and LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) for network discovery and addressing — helpful when swapping a unit on a live PROFINET network without a configuration tool. SNMP v1 is supported for basic network monitoring; v2 and v3 are not. The front panel has LED bars (6 LEDs plus one circulating LED) for signal strength and status at a glance. One digital input is available for external triggers, like a photoelectric sensor to start a read cycle.
