The Omron E2B-S08LN04-MC-C2 is an inductive barrel-style proximity sensor with an M8 x 1 threaded body. It detects ferrous metal targets at a 4 mm range and switches an NPN output at 12...24 V dc.
The 4 mm detection range is the rated sensing distance for a standard steel target — enough to detect a cam lobe or a passing bracket through a small gap, but not for flush-mount applications where the target passes within 2 mm of the face. The M8 x 1 barrel threads into a standard 8 mm mounting hole, so it swaps into any existing M8 prox hole without re-drilling. The NPN output means it sinks current to ground when triggered — common in older PLC input cards or Japanese-sourced control panels. If your card expects a sourcing (PNP) signal, this sensor won't pull the input high without a converter. IP67 sealing means the sensor body and face withstand washdown, dust, and temporary immersion — fine for conveyor lines, packaging machines, and outdoor conveyor transfer points where a hose-down happens at shift end.
