What this sensor is and what it does
The Omron E2E-S04N02-CJ-B2 0.3M is a 4mm diameter threaded unshielded inductive proximity sensor from the E2E Small Diameter series, with a 2mm sensing distance and PNP normally closed output, pre-wired with a 0.3m PVC cable ending in a 3-pin M8 connector. The unshielded body means it requires a non-flush mounting—typically in plastic or non-metallic surroundings—to reach the full 2mm rated sensing range on a ferrous target. Normally closed (NC) output suits fail-safe or safety interlock circuits; PNP sourcing output is common in PLC inputs that look for a positive signal.
Mounting and wiring considerations
The 4mm threaded case threads into a 4mm drilled hole. The pre-wired 0.3m cable with M8 connector allows quick disconnect—no terminal block stripping on the sensor side. Because it is unshielded, do not mount it flush in a metal panel unless you are willing to derate the sensing distance. For flush mounting in metal, a shielded variant would be required. The 3-wire PNP output is active-high (load connected between output and 0V). Verify polarity of the M8 pinout against your cable harness before applying power.
