0.5 mm sensing — what it means for your fixture
The Omron E2EC-CR5C1 2M is a cable-amplifier proximity sensor with a rated sensing distance of 0.5 mm ±15% on ferrous metal — that's a 0.425–0.575 mm window for reliable detection of a standard iron target 5 × 5 × 1 mm. Set distance is 0 to 0.3 mm, meaning the sensor must be mounted within that gap from the target to guarantee switching; beyond 0.3 mm the output may not pull in consistently. Differential travel is 10% max of sensing distance — about 0.05 mm hysteresis — which prevents output chatter when the target stops at the switch point.
Supply flexibility and response speed
Operating voltage range is 5 to 24 VDC (4.75 to 30 VDC allowable), so the E2EC-CR5C1 2M works on legacy 5 V logic rails, standard 24 V control supplies, or anywhere between — no separate regulator needed. Current consumption is 10 mA max, a light load on the power supply even in multi-sensor arrays. Response frequency is 1 kHz — fast enough for moderate-speed part counting, spindle indexing, or cam-follower detection, but not for high-speed line applications above 1000 events per second.
Typical lead time is 1-10 working days through distribution channels; availability is confirmed at quote time against the BOM quantity.
