What it is and where it sits
The Omron E3AS-HL500MD-M3J 0.3M is a triangulation photoelectric sensor in the E3AS-HL series, built around a red laser diode at 660nm and packaged with a 300mm pigtail terminating in an M12 connector. It detects presence and distance over a 35mm to 500mm window, so it is the natural fit for short-range gauging, dimension checks on a conveyor, or object detection on a small-format bottling or packaging station where diffuse-reflective through-beam is too long and a background-suppression proximity sensor is too coarse.
Ratings that actually decide the fit
The 35mm to 500mm sensing window is the headline number — it sets the stand-off distance the integrator plans around, and it is the spec that separates the E3AS-HL from the longer-throw E3AS-F reflective siblings in the same family. Supply is 10V to 30V, which covers the standard 24VDC control-panel rail without a separate power brick. Ingress protection is rated IP67, IP67G, and IP69K — the IP69K rating in particular is what puts this sensor on food, beverage, and pharmaceutical washdown lines, where high-temperature, high-pressure spray-down is a daily event rather than an exception. Operating temperature spans -10C to 50C, so the sensor holds its calibration across most unconditioned panel-side and line-side enclosures; outside that band the unit is not specified for operation. Setup uses a teaching method rather than a mechanical trim pot — point it at the target, trigger teach, and the unit captures the window, which shortens commissioning time on a midnight startup.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
For a mature E3AS-HL SKU, the practical sourcing posture is quoted-to-order against an RFQ — the part is specified into the BOM on its sensing envelope, voltage, and IP rating, and supply is confirmed against that quote rather than off the shelf.
