Product details

What you’re getting

The E3Z-R81: This is a retroreflective photoelectric sensor from Omron’s E3Z series – the one with the Mirror Surface Rejection (MSR) trick. It’s PNP output, runs on 12-24V DC, and comes prewired with a 2-meter cable. The 4-meter sensing distance (minimum 100 mm) handles most conveyor and machine guarding jobs, and it’ll see right through shiny trouble that eats up standard retroreflectives.

MSR – why it matters out here

That Mirror Surface Rejection feature is the real value. Standard retroreflectives get fooled by a polished shaft or a chrome guard – they see the reflection and drop out. The MSR circuit filters that false echo, so a cleanly machined part or a mirror-finish panel won’t kill your signal. The body is PBT, sealed to IP67 – washdown-rated, dust-tight. The prewired cable exits the right-angle face, which keeps the connector out of the splash zone when mounted low on a machine frame.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between E3Z-R81 and E3ZR61?

The E3ZR61 is the NPN output version. Everything else – sensing distance, IP67, MSR, cable, mounting – is identical. You cannot drop a PNP sensor into an NPN wiring scheme without changing the circuit.

What compliance documentation does this sensor come with?

The sensor carries CE marking per the specs. No RoHS, REACH, or UL cert listed for this specific order code.

Can the E3Z-R81 detect mirror-finished parts?

Yes – that’s the point of the Mirror Surface Rejection (MSR) feature. It filters false reflections from shiny surfaces so you get a true signal on polished metal or glass.
