Retro-reflective washdown sensor for automated lines
The Omron E3ZMB86T is a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor from the E3Z series, with PNP output and a sensing range of 100–500 mm using a red LED. It's built for presence detection in automated lines where hygiene matters — the housing carries both IP67 and IP69K ratings, meaning it survives high-pressure hot-water washdown and chemical cleaning common in food and beverage processing. Response time is 1 ms. Termination is via M8 connector.
How it compares to the E3Z-D82
Both sensors are PNP, roughly the same footprint (10.8 vs 11 mm wide, 31 mm height), and share the E3Z series mechanical heritage. The critical difference is sensing method: the E3ZMB86T is retro-reflective (needs a reflector), while the E3Z-D82 is diffuse (detects direct reflection from the target). That changes what you mount opposite the sensor. Termination also differs — the E3ZMB86T uses a discrete M8 connector, while the E3Z-D82 comes with a 2 m pigtail cable. If your panel is wired for a cable, you'll need a mating cordset or a re-termination. The IP69K rating on the E3ZMB86T means it's the logical pick if washdown exposure is part of the application; the E3Z-D82 is only IP67.
