What this sensor is and what it does
The Omron EE-SX772A is a through-beam photoelectric sensor from the EE-SX77 series, designed as a transmitter and receiver set in a compact T-slot body. It detects opaque objects as small as 2 mm x 0.8 mm passing through the 5 mm gap between the emitter and receiver, making it suitable for presence detection, edge sensing, or counting on small parts in automated assembly or packaging lines. The sensor operates on a 5-24V DC supply and outputs an NPN (sinking) signal in dark-on mode — meaning the output transistor turns on when the light path is blocked. The 0.17 msec response time and 3 kHz switching frequency support high-speed detection of fast-moving targets, such as parts on a vibratory feeder or conveyor.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The 5 mm sensing distance is fixed by the through-beam gap — the object must physically pass between the two housing halves. This is not a long-range sensor; it is sized for tight spaces where you need reliable detection of small parts, not for wide-area guarding. The NPN output sinks up to 100 mA, which is typical for driving a PLC input or a small relay directly. If your control system expects a PNP (sourcing) signal, this sensor will not interface without a level converter — verify your input card type before specifying. IP64 rating means the housing is dust-tight and protected against splashing water, so it can handle light washdown or dusty environments inside a guarded machine cell. It is not rated for high-pressure washdown or submersion — for those conditions, look at the IP67/IP69K E3ZM series.
Where it fits in a panel or machine
The T-slot body (12 mm wide, 12 mm deep, 31 mm tall) is designed to slide into a standard T-slot extrusion or bracket, common on pick-and-place gantries, linear actuators, and small assembly fixtures. The 2 m prewired cable with bare wire ends connects directly to a terminal block or PLC input card — no connector to source separately. The PBT housing is lightweight and resists most industrial oils and solvents, but avoid continuous exposure to strong acids or bases. The built-in indicator LED gives a quick visual confirmation of the switching state during setup or troubleshooting.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
Compliance documentation includes CE marking for the European market and RU certification for Russia / EAEU customs union. RoHS and REACH declarations are standard with Omron sensors; request them with your RFQ if your compliance audit requires them.
