Slot-mount photomicro for cassette and edge detection
The Omron EESX673R.1 is a through-beam photomicro sensor from the EE-SX67 series, built into a 13 mm × 28 mm × 13 mm body that drops into the standard U-slot footprint used on PCB indexers, tape-feed cassettes, and small-part ejection stations where the target breaks the beam inside the slot. It runs from 5 V to 24 V supply and delivers a PNP switching output rated at 100 mA load current — covering both 12 V and 24 V PLC input cards without an interface relay, and the Light-ON / Dark-ON selectability lets the same part serve detect-on-entry and detect-on-exit logic depending on the wiring.
5mm gap, 1ms response — what those numbers decide
The 5 mm maximum sensing distance with an infrared LED is the gap between emitter and receiver across the slot — at that spacing the part resolves the leading edge of a 0.5 mm-thick tab cleanly, but it does not have the optical headroom to read through a translucent carrier; opaque targets in the 1–5 mm range are the intended fit. Response time of 1 ms supports line speeds where each indexing cycle is roughly 10 ms or longer — the sensor reliably catches tab transitions on conveyor-stop and pick-and-place stations, while faster indexers need a faster-response alternative. The operating envelope spans -25 °C to 55 °C, covering unheated cabinets and most factory floor ambients; the IP50 rating means the body is dust-protected but not sealed against water or oil splash, so deployment belongs inside an enclosure or above the washdown zone, not in the wet end of a food line.
