Intrinsically safe temperature input for Modicon Quantum racks
The 140AII33000 is an intrinsically safe temperature input module that sits in a Modicon Quantum automation platform rack, handling 8 analog inputs from thermocouples (types J, K, T, E, R, S, B) and RTDs (Pt100, Pt200, Pt500, Pt1000, Ni100, Ni200, Ni500, Ni1000). It carries the CE II1 G/D-EEx ia IIC marking, meaning it is certified for use in explosive gas and dust atmospheres — Zone 20, 21, or 22 — when paired with the appropriate field devices.
The module's intrinsic safety design means hot swapping is not allowed per intrinsic safety standards — the rack must be de-energised before inserting or removing the module. Channel-to-bus isolation is rated 1780 V AC at 47–63 Hz for 1 minute and 2500 V DC for 1 minute, which keeps the hazardous-area field wiring isolated from the control bus. The input impedance is greater than 10 MOhm for both RTD and thermocouple channels, so it does not load the sensor signal. For thermocouple inputs, the source resistance must stay below 200 Ohm, and the module provides internal cold-junction compensation over 0–60 °C.
Resolution, accuracy, and update time across input types
Resolution varies by input type: 0.76 µV (16 bits) on the -25…25 mV millivolt range, 3.05 µV (16 bits) on the -100…100 mV range, 12 bits + sign (0.1 °C) for RTD, and 1 °C / 0.1 °C / 1 °F / 0.1 °F for thermocouple. Linearity is 0.003 % of full scale for RTD, and absolute accuracy at 25 °C is ±0.05 % of full scale for RTD, ±2 °C + 0.1 % of reading for types E, J, K, T thermocouples, and ±4 °C + 0.1 % of reading for types B, R, S. Update time depends on wiring: 750 ms for 2- or 4-wire RTD, 1.35 s for 3-wire RTD, and 1 s for thermocouple/millivolt inputs.
Obsolete — sourcing through independent channels
The module is available through independent surplus and broker channels.
