What this hot standby module does
The 140CHS11000C is a hot standby module for the Modicon Quantum automation platform — it manages the redundant controller pair so that if the primary CPU fails, the standby takes over without losing the process. The fiber optic link between the two controllers runs at 10 Mbit/s over a 3 m cable, which is the sync path for program and data mirroring.
Key specs that define the fit
The module draws 700 mA from the Quantum backplane, which matters for power supply sizing in the rack. RFI immunity is tested to 9.1 V/m across 27–1000 MHz (10 V/m peak) per IEC 60801-3 — relevant if the cabinet sits near VFDs or radio transmitters. It carries conformal coating (Humiseal 1A33) as standard protective treatment, so it handles humid environments up to 95 % RH without condensation. Operating temperature range is 0–60 °C, storage from -40–85 °C. Diagnostics are via five front-panel LEDs: amber for standby, green for I/O communication, green for control process, green for module ready, and red for communication error. That covers the main fault-finding cues without needing a programming terminal.
