Intrinsically safe current input for hazardous dust zones
The 140AII33010 is an 8-channel intrinsically safe current input module for the Modicon Quantum automation platform, designed to interface with field transmitters in explosive atmospheres classified as zone 20, 21, or 22 (dust). Its ATEX marking CE II1 G/D-EEx ia IIC certifies it for use in gas and dust hazardous areas with intrinsically safe circuits, meeting Directive ATEX 94/9/EC, EN 50014, EN 50020, EN 50284, and EN 50281-1-1.
Input ranges, diagnostics, and signal conditioning
Each of the 8 channels accepts standard process current loops: 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, or 0-25 mA, with a 100 Ohm input impedance and an internal fuse for overcurrent protection. Resolution spans 0-16000 counts (4-20 mA), 0-20000 counts (0-20 mA), or 0-25000 counts (0-25 mA), with a linearity error of 0.003% of full scale and typical absolute accuracy of ±0.05% at 25 °C.
Isolation, power budget, and thermal load
Channel-to-bus isolation is rated 2500 V DC for 1 minute and 1780 V AC at 47-63 Hz, providing galvanic separation between the intrinsically safe field circuits and the Quantum backplane. The module draws 1500 mA from the 5 V bus and dissipates 7.5 W — a significant load that must be factored into the rack's power budget and the enclosure's thermal management.
Obsolete — sourcing via independent channels
The module is available through independent surplus and broker channels. Software support includes Concept V2.2 and above, ProWORX, and Unity Pro — existing configurations should migrate without re-engineering if the module is replaced with the same order code.
