The Schneider Electric A9R11480S is a 4-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) from the Acti9 iID series, rated at 80 A and 30 mA sensitivity for Type AC earth-leakage protection.
The 80 A continuous rating (In) means this RCCB can carry the full load of a heavy feeder — think a large sub-panel or a bank of commercial kitchen equipment — without nuisance tripping. Breaking capacity is rated at Idm 1500 A and Im 1500 A, which covers most downstream fault levels in a sub-distribution board. The instantaneous trip means no intentional delay — it clears a ground fault as fast as the internal solenoid can move, which is important for coordinating with upstream devices. The voltage-independent trip mechanism is a reliability feature: if the neutral wire is lost or the voltage drops, the RCCB still trips on a ground fault. That's a real advantage in older installations or temporary power setups where neutral integrity isn't guaranteed.
Mounting and wiring in the panel
The 4P body takes up 8 x 9 mm pitches (: 72 mm wide). Terminals accept up to 35 mm² rigid or 25 mm² flexible cable, with a stripping length of 14 mm and a tightening torque of 3.5 N·m. That's enough for the 80 A feed conductors. Neutral is on the left, which matters when you're laying out the busbar order in the panel. IP20 body protection means it's safe from finger contact but not from dripping water — standard for enclosed distribution boards. The white housing is typical for the Acti9 range and makes labeling visible against a dark panel interior.
