22 kW drive for 380-480 V lines
The ATV21HD22N4 is a 22 kW variable speed drive from the Altivar 21 series, sized for 3-phase asynchronous motors on 380...480 V supplies. Line current draw runs 41.6 A at 380 V and 33.1 A at 480 V, with an apparent power rating of 33.2 kVA at 380 V. That puts it in the 30 HP class on 460 V systems — a common fit for pump, fan, and compressor retrofits where the existing motor nameplate matches that power band. Switching frequency is adjustable from 6 to 16 kHz, with a derating factor needed above 8 kHz. The drive carries a transient overtorque capability of 120 % of nominal motor torque for 60 seconds, which handles short-duration overloads like a conveyor start under load or a pump clearing a blockage.
Compliance and EMC posture
A Class A EMC filter is integrated, meeting EN 55011 Class A Group 1 and EN/IEC 61800-3 environments 1 and 2, categories C1 through C3 depending on installation. The drive is CE marked and complies with IEC 61800-5-1 for safety.
Panel fit and field connections
Dimensions are 16.5 in high by 9.4 in wide by 4.8 in deep — a standard footprint for this power class. The drive is assembled with a heat sink and mounts vertically within ±10 degrees for proper convection cooling. Operating altitude is rated to 3280 ft (1000 m) full spec, derated to 9842 ft (3000 m) with a 2000 m limit on corner-grounded distribution networks. The Modbus serial port uses a 2-wire RS-485 physical interface with an RJ45 connector, running RTU protocol at 9600 or 19200 bps. Addressing supports 1 to 247 nodes. Optional communication cards add BACnet, LonWorks, Metasys N2, or Apogee FLN for building management system integration — a common requirement when this drive lands in an HVAC or water/wastewater application.
