Drive overview and key ratings
The ATV630D30N4: Built-in EMC filter meets IEC 61800-3 category C2 up to 50 m motor cable and C3 up to 150 m. That saves an external filter in most installations, but verify motor cable length against the listed distance — if you're pushing 200 m of shielded cable you'll need the output choke option. Safe Torque Off (STO) rated SIL 3 is standard, no option card required. That keeps safety CPU separation clean without an additional safety relay module.
Mounting, cooling, and environment
Wall-mount only, IP21 enclosure (UL type 1). Forced convection cooling moves 240 m³/h of air — make sure the cabinet has inlet/outlet grilles sized for that flow, or the drive will fold back on overtemperature. Operate vertical ±10°, altitude derating starts above 1000 m at 1% per 100 m. Ambient non-condensing humidity 5–95%. Vibration: 1.5 mm pk-pk at 2–13 Hz, 1 g at 13–200 Hz. Shock: 15 g for 11 ms. This thing will survive a forklift trip across a plant floor, but mount it on a proper backplate, not thin sheet metal.
I/O and communication slots
Eight digital inputs, two programmable as pulse inputs up to 30 kHz. Slot A and slot B accept I/O extension or relay output modules. Communication sled options: Profibus DP V1, PROFINET, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP/EtherNet/IP, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, BACnet, Ethernet Powerlink. Onboard Ethernet (Modbus TCP) and a serial Modbus port are standard. For fieldbus integration, pop a module into slot A. If you need both a second fieldbus and extra I/O, slot B can hold either a comm module or an I/O extension — but not both simultaneously.
CE marked, standard variant. Standards include UL 508C, IEC 61800-3, IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61000-3-12, IEC 60721-3, IEC 61508, and IEC 13849-1. Compliance documentation available with the unit; specify at order if hard copies needed.
