23-bit absolute feedback and what it means for the motion cycle
The BEH18MM1313CA6C carries a 23-bit optic multi-turn encoder as its position feedback — that's 8,388,608 counts per revolution with absolute position tracking over multiple turns. On a pick-and-place or rotary indexing station, this eliminates the homing sequence on power-up; the drive reads the shaft position directly from the encoder once the bus is live. The optic encoder type means the feedback resolution is limited by the optical disc and read-head, not by magnetic pole count. For coordinated motion where two axes must hold registration after a power cycle — a flying saw or a gantry with belt-driven stages — the 23-bit multi-turn feedback saves a full re-home cycle every time the cabinet loses 24 V.
Torque delivery without a brake — the mechanical holding constraint
Holding torque is rated at 20.0 N.m with no holding brake fitted. That means the motor relies entirely on the drive's holding current and the mechanical load's own friction to keep position when the drive is enabled but not moving. If the application needs to hold a vertical axis or a high-inertia load with the drive disabled, an external brake must be added — the motor itself provides no spring-set or electrically released brake. Continuous stall torque is 8.34 N.m at 220 V, with a continuous stall current of 9.4 A. The peak stall torque hits 25.02 N.m at the same voltage, giving a 3:1 peak-to-continuous ratio — enough for acceleration transients on a 1300 W continuous power machine without oversizing the drive. The torque constant is 0.887 N.m/A at 40 °C. Use this to set the drive's current loop gain: at 9.4 A continuous stall current, the motor delivers the rated 8.34 N.m; the drive's peak current limit of 27 A corresponds to the 25.02 N.m peak torque. The back EMF constant of 63.21 V/krpm at 40 °C sets the voltage-speed ceiling — at 3000 rpm mechanical max, the back EMF reaches about 190 V, leaving headroom on a 220 V bus.
IP67 enclosure and Asian standard flange — washdown-ready mounting
IP67 protection means the motor body and the connector interface are sealed against dust ingress and temporary immersion up to 1 m for 30 minutes. On a food-processing or washdown line, this motor can be hose-cleaned without a secondary cover — the shaft seal and the connector O-ring are the wet-end barriers. The Asian standard flange with a 130 mm flange size and four mounting holes positions the motor on the common metric hole pattern used across Lexium 18 and many Asian-sourced machine frames. The shaft is 22.0 mm diameter with a parallel key (key width 8.0 mm, shaft length 58.0 mm) — fits standard timing-belt pulleys and coupling bores in that size class.

Maximum radial force is 686 N, maximum axial force is 196 N — these are the bearing load limits at the shaft centreline. Belt-drive applications with high belt tension must stay within these limits; exceeding the radial force shortens bearing life and can cause the encoder to lose alignment.
