Sizing the motor to the load — torque and power at 380 V
The BEH18MR2413MA6D delivers 15.28 Nm nominal torque and 2400 W continuous output power at 380 V three-phase, which sets the steady-state capability for a direct-drive or geared axis. The continuous stall torque matches the nominal torque at 15.28 Nm, so the motor can hold rated torque at zero speed without derating. Peak stall torque reaches 45.84 Nm at 380 V, giving a 3:1 overload margin for acceleration, deceleration, or clearing a jam. The maximum permanent current is 25.48 A, which the drive must be sized to supply continuously.
Encoder feedback and absolute positioning
The 17-bit magnetic multi-turn encoder provides absolute position feedback over 131,072 counts per revolution and tracks multiple shaft turns without a backup battery — the multi-turn count is retained magnetically, not electronically. This eliminates the homing sequence on power-up for applications where the axis position must be known immediately. The torque constant is 1.8 Nm/A at 40 °C, and the back-EMF constant is 118.69 V/krpm at 40 °C. These values let the drive calculate the current-to-torque ratio and the velocity feedback scaling directly from the encoder.
Environmental sealing and mounting constraints
The motor is air-cooled, so the ambient air must carry away the heat; do not enclose it in a sealed shroud without forced ventilation. The Asian standard flange has a 180 mm flange size and four mounting holes. The shaft is 35 mm diameter with a 79 mm shaft length and a 10 mm parallel key. Maximum radial force is 1470 N and maximum axial force is 490 N — stay within these limits to avoid bearing damage.
