Processor module for integrated safety and process control
The BMEP582040S is the M580 rack-mounted processor that runs both standard process control and safety-rated logic on a single backplane – no separate safety PLC required. It carries SIL 3 per IEC 61508, SILCL 3 per IEC 62061, and Category 4 per ISO 13849-1, so it can handle burner management, turbine overspeed protection, or emergency shutdown sequences while also executing the plant’s main control loops. Memory is partitioned: 8 MB for the program workspace, 2 MB specifically for safety logic, plus 768 kB for process data and 512 kB for safety data – and a 4 GB flash card slot holds archived programs and trend logs. The processor draws 295 mA at 24 V DC from the rack backplane; no separate power supply module is needed.
Compliance and environmental ruggedness
The module carries CE, ATEX (2014/34/EU), and UL/CSA per UL 61010-2-201 and CSA C22.2 No 61010-2-201. It is conformal coated as standard – the impregnation material and protective treatment both list conformal coating, which protects against condensation, gas, and dust in Class Gx and 3C4 environments. Ambient operation from -25 °C to 60 °C, storage from -40 °C to 85 °C, and 15 gn shock resistance. Mounting is in an IP20 backplane; no additional enclosure needed for the module itself.
Communication and cybersecurity
Two Ethernet TCP/IP ports plus a Mini-B USB service port. The processor supports DIO scanner and RIO scanner for distributed I/O, and can handle up to 64 RIO drops and 16 CIP safety I/O devices. Cybersecurity features include Achilles certification, an embedded firewall, IPSec, SNMP logging, and password hardening – this module is built for environments that require NERC CIP or IEC 62443-3-3 compliance.
