The BMEP582040S is the M580 rack-mounted processor that runs both standard process control and safety-rated logic on a single backplane – no separate safety PLC required. It carries SIL 3 per IEC 61508, SILCL 3 per IEC 62061, and Category 4 per ISO 13849-1, so it can handle burner management, turbine overspeed protection, or emergency shutdown sequences while also executing the plant’s main control loops. Memory is partitioned: 8 MB for the program workspace, 2 MB specifically for safety logic, plus 768 kB for process data and 512 kB for safety data – and a 4 GB flash card slot holds archived programs and trend logs.
