The Schneider Electric TeSys GV2LC0216R is an enclosed direct-on-line (DOL) starter — a self-contained unit combining a circuit breaker and a contactor in a single polycarbonate enclosure, rated IP54. The 14 A thermal adjustment range sets the overload protection level for the connected motor load. This is the critical setting for matching the starter to the motor full-load current — set it at the motor nameplate FLA, not the breaker frame rating. Breaking capacity varies with supply voltage: 100 kA Icu at 220...230 V, 50 kA at 400...415 V, 20 kA at 440 V, and 10 kA at 500 V, all conforming to IEC 60947-2. At a typical 400 V industrial supply, the 50 kA rating provides substantial fault-current headroom for most panel installations.
Where it goes — deployment context
This is a wall-mount or machine-mount enclosed starter, not a DIN-rail component. The IP54 polycarbonate enclosure means it is suited for indoor industrial environments where dust and splash are present — pump stations, conveyor drives, small compressors — but not for direct washdown or outdoor exposure. Cable entry is via ISO knockouts: two at the top (20 mm and 25 mm) and two at the bottom (20 mm and 25 mm), giving flexibility for top or bottom cable entry in a panel gland plate.
The starter is designed and tested to IEC 60947-4 (the standard for contactors and motor-starters) and IEC 60947-2 (circuit-breaker standard), as well as EN 60947 and VDE 0660-102. These certifications cover the interrupting rating, coordination, and thermal performance required for motor-starting duty.
