65 A motor circuit breaker for TeSys Deca panels
The Schneider GV3L656 is a 3-pole motor circuit breaker from the TeSys Deca range, rated 65 A continuous current (In) with a magnetic trip unit that fires at 910 A — roughly 14× In, set to pass motor start inrush without nuisance tripping while clearing a locked-rotor fault. Breaking capacity is 50 kA Icu at 400/415 V AC, 50/60 Hz — enough to handle a bolted fault on a typical 400 V industrial distribution board without the upstream breaker needing to coordinate. At 690 V the Icu drops to 6 kA, which still covers most motor branch circuits at that voltage. Motor power ratings span 30 kW at 400 V to 55 kW at 690 V, so the same breaker body covers a range of motor frame sizes depending on the line voltage.
Mounting and panel fit
Snaps onto 35 mm symmetrical DIN rail or screws direct to the panel backplate with three M4 screws — no adapter plate needed. Dimensions are 136 mm deep × 55 mm wide × 132 mm high, so it occupies about the same footprint as a three-pole contactor in the same family. Connection pitch is 17.5 mm between poles without spreaders, which matches the standard TeSys Deca busbar system for daisy-chaining power across multiple devices on the same DIN rail. IP20 finger-safe terminals — suitable for enclosed panel use; the rotary handle protrudes through the panel door for local on/off/reset without opening the enclosure.
Duty cycle and thermal budget
Rated for uninterrupted duty per IEC 60947-4-1, meaning it carries 65 A continuously without derating in a 40 °C ambient. Power dissipation is 8 W per pole — 24 W total at full load — which factors into the enclosure's internal temperature rise calculation. Electrical endurance is 50,000 cycles in AC-3 at 415 V — that's the motor-switching duty class, not resistive. Mechanical endurance matches at 50,000 cycles, so the contact wear and the mechanism wear are balanced for the same service life. Operating temperature range is -20 to 60 °C, storage -40 to 80 °C. The unit is rated for operation up to 3000 m altitude without derating; above that, the air dielectric and cooling both degrade, so consult the altitude correction table.
Standards and compliance
Certified to EN/IEC 60947-2 (circuit-breaker standard) and EN/IEC 60947-4-1 (contactor-starter standard), plus UL 60947-4-1 and CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1 — so it passes for both IEC and North American panel builds. Also listed for IEC/EN 60335 household-appliance standards for motor protection in HVAC equipment. Suitable for isolation per IEC 60947-1, meaning the open contacts provide a visible-break disconnect that meets the safety isolation requirement for maintenance access. Fire resistance tested to 960 °C glow-wire per IEC 60695-2-11, and climatic withstand per IACS for marine and humid environments.
