The Schneider GV3L73 is a 73 A motor circuit breaker from the TeSys Deca line, built for motor branch-circuit protection in 3-phase AC systems. It combines a magnetic trip unit (fixed at 1120 A) for short-circuit faults with thermal overload protection, all in a compact 3-pole frame. That's the part number you need when a MCC bucket or motor starter panel calls out a 73 A GV3L — and it's current production, so no hunting for NOS.
The 73 A line rated current is the continuous ampacity — match it to the motor nameplate full-load amps or a shade above. The magnetic trip at 1120 A handles inrush; at 400 V, the breaker interrupts up to 50 kA rms, so it holds up in high-fault panels without upstream fuses. Rated motor power at 400 V is 37 kW, so it covers a 50 HP (approx) induction motor. Thermal-magnetic design means no adjustment dials — set it at the factory fixed point. Mechanical durability of 50,000 cycles and electrical durability of 20,000 cycles at AC-3 (415 V) tell you it'll outlast the motor in normal switching service. The rotary handle makes local operation straightforward; the dark grey housing is IP20 rated for inside-enclosure use. Ambient storage range of -40 to +176 °F (-40 to +80 °C) covers most plant environments.
Standards and documentation
Listed to EN/IEC 60947-2 and -4-1, UL 60947-4-1, and CSA C22.2 No 60947-4-1. Also carries compliance with IEC/EN 60335-1 Clause 30.2 and 60335-2-40 Annex JJ for flammability (glow-wire at 960 °C). Suitable for isolation per IEC 60947-1. The full datasheet and UL/CSA certificates are available from the manufacturer.
