As an AC-operated coil, the LX1D2P7 generates the magnetic flux needed to pull in the contactor armature when 230 V AC is applied. Its 8 W power consumption is the steady-state holding power once the contactor is sealed — the inrush is higher but brief. The coil is not suppressed internally; an external RC snubber or varistor across the coil terminals is recommended when switching with a PLC or solid-state output to limit voltage transients.
