Motor ratings and what they mean for your axis
The SH30401P16A2100 is a 170 W continuous power servo motor from the SH3 family, with a 40 mm flange size (IEC standard). Its nominal torque ranges from 0.176 N·m on single-phase supply up to 0.184 N·m on three-phase 400-480 V — the higher torque on three-phase is what you design the axis around for production duty. Speed capability depends on the drive supply: 4000 rpm on single-phase 115/230 V, and 9000 rpm on three-phase 400/480 V. The maximum mechanical speed is 9000 rpm, so the three-phase configuration uses the full speed envelope of the motor. The absolute single-turn SinCos Hiperface encoder (16 periods) provides position feedback without a home cycle on power-up — critical for applications where the axis must resume position after a power loss without re-referencing.
Physical integration and environmental sealing
The motor measures 73.4 mm in length with an 8 mm shaft diameter and 25 mm shaft length, using a parallel key (3 mm key width). The centring collar is 30 mm diameter with a 2.5 mm depth, and the flange mounts via four 4.5 mm holes on the standard 40 mm pattern. Cooling is by natural convection, so no forced air or liquid cooling loop is needed. Electrical connection is via a rotatable right-angled connector, which simplifies cable routing in tight cabinet or machine-frame spaces.
Electrical parameters for drive matching
Stator resistance is 17.2 Ω and inductance is 14.6 mH — these values set the electrical time constant and influence the current-loop tuning gains in the servo drive. The torque constant is 0.19 N·m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, and the back-EMF constant is 13.6 V/krpm at 20 °C. Continuous stall torque is 0.21 N·m at 1.12 A continuous stall current across the three-phase voltage range. Peak stall torque reaches 0.75 N·m at 480 V three-phase, with a peak current of 4.5 A for up to 3 seconds — this defines the acceleration and deceleration capability for short-duration moves.
