Motor ratings and speed-torque envelope
The SH30702M12A2200: This SH3-series servo delivers 640 W continuous power, with nominal torque ranging from 17.97 to 19.5 lbf.in (2.03–2.2 Nm) depending on supply voltage. The nominal speed varies from 750 rpm at 115 V single-phase up to 3600 rpm at 480 V three-phase, so the drive supply voltage directly sets the available speed range. Peak stall torque is 67.3 lbf.in (7.6 Nm) across the 115–480 V three-phase range, giving a 3.4× overload margin over the continuous stall torque of 2.04 Nm. The 6.0 A peak current (3 s rating) matches the drive's short-term current capability for acceleration moves.
Feedback and environmental sealing
The absolute multiturn SinCos Hiperface encoder provides position feedback without a home cycle after power loss — the multiturn count tracks absolute position over multiple shaft revolutions. This eliminates the need for a reference run on power-up, reducing cycle time in pick-and-place or rotary indexing applications. The motor body carries IP65 protection, the shaft bushing is IP65, and the housing is IP67 per IEC 60034-5. Cooling is natural convection — no integrated fan. The thermal budget depends on the mounting surface (flange-to-machine thermal conductivity) and ambient temperature. The winding temperature limit is 130°C (copper hot), which sets the thermal protection threshold in the drive.
Mechanical interface and shaft loading
The motor mounts on an international standard flange with a 70 mm pilot diameter and 2.5 mm centring collar depth. The shaft is 11 mm diameter with a parallel key (4 mm key width) and 23 mm shaft length — standard for coupling to a gearhead or pulley via a keyed hub. Maximum radial force on the shaft is derated with speed: 710 N at 1000 rpm down to 390 N at 6000 rpm. Maximum axial force is 80 N. These limits govern belt tension or direct-coupling overhung loads — exceeding them shortens bearing life. The electrical connection offers both a straight connector and a rotatable right-angled connector — the right-angle option saves space in shallow enclosures or cable trays where the motor is mounted close to a panel wall.
Electrical parameters for drive sizing
Stator resistance is 16.4 Ω and stator inductance is 41.55 mH — the high inductance limits current ripple, allowing a lower PWM frequency from the drive without excessive ripple heating. The torque constant is 1.36 Nm/A at 120°C winding temperature, and the back EMF constant is 95.9 V/krpm at 20°C. These constants let the drive's current loop and velocity loop calculate the correct voltage and current commands. The motor is three-phase, with continuous stall current of 1.5 A and maximum RMS current of 6.0 A. The drive must supply at least 6.0 A peak to utilise the full peak torque. Nominal output power varies with supply: 340 W at 230 V single-phase, 660 W at 400 V three-phase, and 780 W at 480 V three-phase.
