Voltage-dependent torque and speed — the real selection constraint
The SH32053P12A2200: This SH3-series servo motor delivers 751.4 lbf.in (84.9 N.m) nominal torque at 115 V single-phase input, but that drops to 355.8 lbf.in (40.2 N.m) when fed from 480 V three-phase — the torque constant is 2.84 N.m/A at 120 °C copper temperature, so the available torque follows the current the drive can push at each supply voltage. Nominal speed climbs from 500 rpm at 115 V single-phase to 2400 rpm at 480 V three-phase; the 10,600 W continuous power rating is the thermal ceiling, not the mechanical limit — the motor can sustain that output as long as the natural convection cooling (no fan) keeps the 130 °C copper hot-spot temperature within limits.
Encoder feedback and environmental sealing
The absolute multiturn SinCos Hiperface encoder provides position feedback without a homing cycle on power-up — critical for vertical-axis applications where the load position must be known immediately after a power loss. The rotatable right-angled connector lets the cable exit in any of four orientations, simplifying cable routing in tight cabinets. Three-zone IP protection: the motor body is IP65, the shaft bushing is IP65, and the housing is IP67 — the housing seal is the wet-end barrier, so the motor survives washdown spray but the shaft bushing is only splash-rated. The 4500 N maximum radial force at 1000 rpm sets the belt-drive or direct-coupling limit; exceed that and the bearing life degrades.
Mounting envelope and shaft interface
International standard flange with 8.07 in (205 mm) centring collar diameter and 0.2 in (4 mm) collar depth — mates with standard IEC B5 or B14 flanges. The 1.5 in (38 mm) shaft with parallel key and 3.1 in (80 mm) shaft length is a common NEMA 38 mm interface; the 0.4 in (10 mm) key width matches standard key stock. Overall length 19.3 in (489 mm) from mounting face to rear housing — measure the available cavity before ordering; the natural convection cooling requires clearance around the housing for airflow, so don't bury it against a panel wall.
The motor ships as a single unit with the rotatable connector pre-fitted; no holding brake means the application must provide external holding torque via the drive's brake resistor or a mechanical brake on the load.
