Extended I/O card for Altivar 58 — what it carries
The VW3A58201 is an extended I/O card that plugs into an Altivar 58 variable speed drive, adding one differential analog input (0–10 VDC or 24 V, 30 kOhm impedance, 10-bit resolution), one switch-configurable analog output (0–20 mA, 500 Ohm load, 2 ms sampling, 9-bit + sign resolution), two assignable logic inputs (24 VDC, ≤30 V), and one assignable logic output (24 VDC, 0.2 A max, open collector). The card also includes a PTC probe input (750 Ohm impedance) for direct motor thermal protection — the drive reads the PTC resistance and trips on over-temperature without a separate relay.
Supply and protection — what the 24 V rail powers
The card draws its internal supply from the drive's 24 VDC bus (21–27 V range) and generates a separate 10 VDC (9–11 V) rail for the logic inputs, drawing under 0.01 A with a 1–10 kOhm impedance for overload and short-circuit protection. Reverse polarity protection is built into the digital input circuit, and the output has short-circuit protection — so a miswire on the field side won't take out the card or the drive backplane.
Connection and durability — field wiring reality
Field wiring terminates on a screw terminal block accepting 1.5 mm² (AWG 16) — standard for control cabinet wiring, no special crimp tool needed. The open-collector logic output is rated for 100,000 electrical cycles at full load — adequate for signalling and low-power switching but not for direct solenoid or contactor coil drive without an interposing relay.
Lifecycle status — obsolete, sourced through independent channels
Available through independent surplus and broker channels; quantities are lot-specific and confirmed at RFQ. No pin-compatible drop-in replacement exists from Schneider — a drive upgrade or I/O reconfiguration is required for new designs.
