Braking power that matches the deceleration duty
The VW3A7206 is a network braking unit rated for 70 kW peak braking power and 32 kW continuous — the peak figure handles the transient energy during a fast stop, while the continuous rating governs sustained braking on a high-inertia load like a centrifuge or winder. It is designed for 400 V class variable-speed drives (380...415 V supply range) and draws its power from the DC bus of the drive or a common DC bus network.
Installation constraints — altitude, fusing, and panel space
The unit measures 700 mm high by 245 mm wide by 242 mm deep — a tall, narrow footprint that fits into a standard IP20 enclosure but needs vertical clearance for airflow and cable entry. Above 1000 m altitude, the continuous current must be derated 5 % per additional 1000 m; at 3000 m the unit delivers roughly 90 % of its rated braking torque. The recommended line fuse is 160 A at 660 V — size the upstream protection to clear a fault before the braking unit's internal IGBTs exceed their SOA.
