Active infeed converter for regenerative drive systems
The VW3A7252 is a Schneider Electric active infeed converter (AIC) rated 175 kW at 400 V, designed as a component of an Active Front End for low-harmonics energy regeneration in motor drive systems. It delivers 265 A continuous output at 400 V and 203 A at 480 V, with a DC bus output voltage of 650 V DC from a 380-400 V AC supply, stepping to 770 V DC at 480 V AC input.
Overload capability and thermal management
The converter handles 1.20 x nominal current for 60 seconds and 1.35 x nominal current for 2 seconds — enough to ride through motor starting or short-term load spikes without tripping. Forced convection cooling moves 600 m³/h of air through the power circuit and 165 m³/h through the control circuit; thermal losses are 2970 W at full load, so the panel must provide at least 700 cm² of free air flow surface for the IP00 unit.
Panel integration and environmental limits
The built-in assembly style and IP00 rating mean the VW3A7252 must be mounted inside an enclosure that provides touch protection and directs the forced air flow — vertical orientation within ±10 degrees is required. Operating temperature range is -10 to 45 °C without derating; above 45 °C up to 60 °C, derate current by 2 % per °C. At altitudes above 1000 m up to 3000 m, derate 1 % per 100 m.
