Active infeed converter — 540 kW, 380-440 V
The VW3A7257: It draws 780 A line current at 400 V and handles overloads up to 1.20× nominal for 60 s or 1.35× nominal for 2 s. This unit is designed for energy regeneration and low-harmonics applications — it's the front-end converter that conditions the DC bus for a drive system, not a standalone drive itself.
Schneider Electric lists the VW3A7257 as obsolete (mature stage). No official successor part number is recorded.
Physical footprint and mounting
The built-in unit measures 880 mm wide × 1150 mm high × 377 mm deep — a substantial cabinet footprint. It requires 1500 cm² of air-flow surface and moves 1800 m³/h of cooling air for the power circuit plus 500 m³/h for the control circuit via forced convection. Operating position is vertical ±10°, and the unit is rated IP00 — it must be installed inside a suitable enclosure that provides the required ingress protection and clearance for the 8920 W of thermal losses.
Environmental and compliance
Designed to EN/IEC 61800-5-1 with pollution degree 2. Ambient operating range is -10 to 45 °C, with derating up to 60 °C (2 % per °C above 45 °C). Storage range is -25 to 70 °C. Altitude derating applies above 1000 m (1 % per 100 m up to 3000 m). Environmental classification is 3K3 (temperature/humidity), 3C2 (chemical), 3S2 (mechanical) per EN/IEC 60721-3-3. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm at 3-10 Hz and 0.6 gn at 10-200 Hz; shock resistance is 4 gn for 11 ms.
Communications and control interface
The unit includes a communication bridge option card with one RJ45 for Modbus and a male SUB-D 9 on RJ45 for CANopen. Protocol support covers Modbus and CANopen.
