Active front end for regenerative drives and harmonic control
The VW3A7277 is a 675 kW active infeed converter (AIC) designed for 500–690 V three-phase networks. It serves as the line-side interface for regenerative drive systems, feeding energy back to the grid during deceleration and actively shaping the input current to keep harmonics low — a direct fit for applications where line distortion or braking resistor heat is a problem.
Continuous current and overload headroom
Rated 604 A continuous output at 500 V, 600 V, and 690 V supply — the current rating is flat across the voltage range, so the power scales with line voltage. Overload capability is 1.20× nominal for 60 s and 1.35× nominal for 2 s, which covers motor acceleration and load transients without oversizing the converter. Input power at the line side reaches 488 kW at 500 V, 585 kW at 600 V, and 673 kW at 690 V. The DC bus output voltage tracks the supply: 840 V DC from 500–525 V AC input, 960 V DC at 600 V AC, and 1100 V DC at 690 V AC.
Cooling, enclosure, and panel integration
IP00 open-frame construction means the converter is built into the cabinet — it relies on forced convection cooling with 2400 m³/h for the power circuit and 300 m³/h for the control circuit. Thermal losses are 9560 W, so the enclosure must be sized to exhaust that heat; the required free air flow surface is 2000 cm². Operating altitude derates current 1% per 100 m above 1000 m. Dimensions are 1110 mm wide × 1390 mm high × 377 mm deep — a large built-in unit that needs a dedicated section of the panel. The assembly style is built-in, not wall-mount, so plan for horizontal bus bars or cable entry at the bottom.
Compliance and environmental ratings
Designed to EN/IEC 61800-5-1 for adjustable-speed drive systems, with pollution degree 2. Environmental classification is 3K3 (temperature/humidity), 3C2 (chemical), and 3S2 (mechanical) per EN/IEC 60721-3-3. Vibration resistance is 1.5 mm at 3–10 Hz and 0.6 gn at 10–200 Hz; shock resistance is 4 gn for 11 ms. Storage temperature range is –25 to 70 °C.
