The VW3A7711 is a braking resistor from the Schneider Altivar range, rated for 37 kW at 50 °C with a 2.1 Ohm ohmic value. It dissipates regenerative energy from a motor drive during deceleration — the 2.1 Ohm resistance determines the braking torque curve, while the 37 kW average power rating tells you how much thermal energy it can absorb continuously without exceeding the 50 °C ambient limit.
Physical fit and connection
Dimensions are 460 mm deep, 1140 mm wide, and 1150 mm high — a large, floor-mount or heavy panel-mount unit. The electrical connection is via M10 bar terminals sized for the drive cable, so plan for lug-type terminations and adequate bending radius in the enclosure. The IP23 rating limits placement to indoor, non-washdown locations; if your line environment sees hose-down cleaning or high humidity, you'll need to locate this resistor in a separate cabinet or specify a higher IP variant.
Thermal protection and operating range
Thermal protection is handled externally via a thermal overload relay — the resistor itself does not have an embedded thermostat or PTC. The 37 kW rating is at the top of the operating band, so if your enclosure ambient runs above 40 °C, factor in derating per the thermal curve (not provided here, but standard for wirewound resistors).
