The VW3A7714 is a braking resistor in the Altivar range, sized to dissipate 20.9 kW average power at 50 °C with a resistance of 1.4 Ohm. That power rating tells you how much regenerative energy it can sink continuously during deceleration — match it to the duty cycle of your drive and load. The 1.4 Ohm value sets the peak braking torque curve; a lower resistance pulls more current and brakes harder, but the drive's chopper transistor must handle that peak. Thermal protection is handled externally via a thermal overload relay (not integrated), so you'll need to wire that relay into the drive's safety chain to prevent resistor meltdown on a stalled decel.
Dimensions are 990 mm wide, 440 mm high, 540 mm deep — a substantial box that needs floor or heavy wall mounting, not a DIN rail. The M10 bar wire connection is sized for drive-level current; plan for lugs on 10 mm studs.
