The Schneider VW3A7716 is a braking resistor in the Altivar drive family, rated 1.05 Ohm and 75 kW at 50 °C. It dissipates regenerative energy from the DC bus during deceleration — sized for a 75 kW motor load on a 400 V three-phase drive. The IP23 enclosure allows indoor installation in a ventilated cabinet or dedicated resistor bay; the M10 bar connection pairs with the drive's DC bus terminals.
This part is marked obsolete by Schneider.
The 1.05 Ohm resistance determines the braking torque profile: lower ohms draw higher current for a given DC bus voltage, so the resistor can absorb energy faster but stresses the drive's chopper transistor. The 75 kW continuous power rating at 50 °C ambient means it can sustain full braking duty at that power level without derating — above 50 °C, the thermal overload relay (integral to the resistor assembly) will trip to protect the element.
Physical integration
Dimensions are 1140 mm wide, 1150 mm high, 620 mm deep — a substantial cabinet footprint. The M10 bar connection requires a torque wrench; verify the drive's DC bus terminal accepts M10 lugs. Mount the resistor vertically with clearance above and below for convective airflow — forced ventilation is recommended if ambient exceeds 40 °C.
