What this 12 mm sensor brings
Square D/Telemecanique XS4P12MA230 is an unshielded, threaded barrel proximity sensor with a 12 mm diameter body and 4 mm front sensing range. It works on AC or DC supplies from 24 to 240 VAC or 24 to 210 VDC, switching loads between 5 and 200 mA. The output is normally open, two-wire, so it pulls in on target presence. Rated IP68 and NEMA 3/4X/6P/12/13, it handles high-pressure washdown and temporary submersion. The plastic body and PPS sensing face stand up to many industrial coolants and mild chemicals. Switching frequency is 25 Hz on AC, 3000 Hz on DC — fast enough for counting on a conveyor, but if you need higher DC rate, watch the AC side ceiling.
How it sizes up against XS4P30MA230
The XS4P30MA230 looks similar but is a 30 mm barrel with 15 mm sensing distance and 300 mA AC load capacity. It will not drop into a bracket drilled for a 12 mm sensor, and the longer sensing range can cause false triggers if the target gap was set for 4 mm. Stick with this part if your panel hole is 12 mm and your target is within 4 mm.
