The XS508B1NAM8 is a current-production 8mm shielded inductive proximity sensor from the Telemecanique Sensors XS5 series, rated IP67 and NEMA 4X for wet or washdown environments. It's the part you reach for when a machine builder spec'd a stainless steel body and an M8 connector on a tight panel layout. Rated 12–24V DC with a 200 mA max load, NPN normally open output. The 2 mm sensing distance is shielded — meaning it detects the target directly in front and ignores metal alongside. That's useful when mounting into a steel bracket or through a metal face plate without worrying about false triggers. The housing is 303 stainless steel with nickel-plated finish, and the indicator light is built into the body — no external LED tower needed. IP67 and NEMA 4X means it takes hose-down and condensation on a packaging line or conveyor wash station.
Wiring and fit
Three-wire NPN with an M8 male connector. The M8 pitch is 3-pin, so verify your mating cable — most pre-molded M8 cords are straight or right-angle with a female coupler. Spring-cage or screw-terminal pigtails work too; strip length around 8 mm per usual practice. Body diameter is 8 mm with M8 thread — mounts through a standard 8 mm hole with a nut. The shielded design means you don't need a separate mounting bracket; just thread it into a tapped hole or through a panel.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Compliance certs on file: CE, CSA, RoHS, and UL Listed. The NEMA 4X rating aligns with UL 50E for enclosures, so panel builders can pass inspections without extra documentation.
